About Word & Brain

Word & Brain publishes friendly guides to the games and puzzles that keep your mind busy: spelling bees and word games, memory tests, reaction time, trivia and quick games for two. Each guide answers one question people actually ask, and answers it in the first paragraph.

How guides are written

• Answer first. The opening paragraph gives you the answer. The rest of the page adds the detail.
• Checked against trusted sources. Rules come from the organizations that set them, word facts from dictionary publishers, and research claims from peer-reviewed studies and government health agencies. Every guide links to its sources.
• No hype. When the evidence for a claim is thin, like whether brain games make you smarter, we say so.

Recommendations

Some guides recommend an app when it fits the topic. Descriptions of an app come from its official App Store listing. Some of the apps recommended here are made by the people who publish this site.

Not an official source

Word & Brain is not an official source for the competitions, games and puzzles it covers, such as the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Their names and trademarks belong to their owners.
